The ultimate goal of 3D printing a watch was met a few weeks ago when the design was finalised and successfully printed with ABS and PLA.
Pondering where to go next on the project I ordered some Rosewood Timberfill from Fillamentum and started playing around with that. The results are stunning.
To my surprise the printer didn’t seem to be struggling with this type of filament. Although there are a few requirements which need to be met. Much as with TPE, there has to be sufficient clearance between the nozzle and the bed. Both these filaments are quite abrasive and will clog your nozzle easily if there is the least bit resistance when extruded.
Leaving the Timberfill filament in a 170.c nozzle is also a great way to render it useless as the filament will burn and clog up the nozzle rapidly.
The watch was printed at 40mm/sec and came out wit much less artifacts than PLA or ABS have.
